Bishop's hangs tough but drops game to American International
Playing without point guard Andy Wright (funeral in Fredericton) and post Damon Thomas Anderson (concussion) the outmanned Bishop's Gaiters fell 70-58 to American International, an NCAA Division 2 school from Springfield, MA. Down 30-25 at halftime, the Gaiters dug themselves a hole in the 3rd quarter against a very athletic AIC team – losing the 3rd quarter 26-13. The coaching staff credited the Gaiters with continual hustle in the 4th quarter but 3 foul outs by veterans Herman Tesfaghebriel, Cam Mowat and Junior Nicolas did not help. Leading scorers for Bishop’s were Junior Nicolas with 16 pts, 6’6” Doug McCooeye with 14 pts and 10 rebs and Hermon Tesfaghebriel with 13 pts and 6 rebs. AIC, which was 16-13 last year in the Northeast 10 Conference, were led by Ryan Leak (Brooklyn, NY) 18 pts 5 rebs, 6’7” Vanier College product Senat Colson (Robert Morris College transfer) with 14 pts and Akeem Vanderhorst (Bayshore, NY) added 13 pts and 6 rebs. Dawson College alum Jeffrey Dosado (who was a huge Bishop’s recruit four years ago) started at point guard and had 7 pts and 3 assists. Bishop's moves on to meet Windsor next Friday at the McGill Invitational in Montreal while American International travels to meet UQAM in Montreal tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM.
