Johnson, Richards Lead X to win at Dalhousie
St. FX (1-0 in AUS, 7-3 overall) 86, Dalhousie (0-1 in AUS, 5-5 overall) 76 - FOUR POINT GAME 6'3" Dwayne Johnson had probably the biggest game in his X-Men career, going off for 26 points and adding 10 rebounds to lead the X-Men to victory at Dalplex before over 1,000 fans in the AUS regular season opener for both teams. Johnson (pictured, left) continually got free in transition for easy layups and on the "o" glass (5 putbacks) for scores inside as the X-Men won their third in a row overall. 6'2" Tyler Richards added 23 for St. FX, which shot 51% for the game. X got off to one of their high-energy, fast starts taking the lead early at 26-16 after the first quarter but watched as 6'1" Simon Farine (24 points, 10 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds) lead a Tiger charge back to bring the game back to within 2 late in the first quarter and 5 by halftime. Farine had 16 of the Tigers 34 first-half points. An 8-0 run off the start of the second half gave X a comfortable 13 point lead early in the third quarter as the Tigers turned the ball over 3 times on their first 4 possessions, leading to a pair of easy lay-ins for Johnson and a slam by 6'7" Luiz de Toledo (6 points, 7 rebounds in 27 minutes). But Dal came out of time out with a 8-0 run of their own, again led by Farine who found teammates for open layins on the break. The Tigers ended up with all 5 starters in double figures as their offense became more balanced in the second half, but an inability to get significant scoring inside and a terrible 6-13 effort as a team from the foul line were keys in their setback. The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, hosting Acadia at 3 PM at Dalplex while X is off until next Friday and Saturday when they host MUN Seahawks in Antigonish. Box Score
