Wayne Thomas Piece on CIS Talent from Calgary, Alberta

Calgary Talent Spread Across the CIS By Wayne Thomas... There are, by our quick count, at least 22 Calgary area players who are suiting up for CIS teams across the country, with the largest group (8), of course, right here with the Dinos. There are another 4 playing at Lethbridge, and then ones and twos all the way from UVic to UNB. It is not an easy task to crack the lineup at the CIS level, and, of these 22, Calgary has produced several are among the top players in the country. Jeff Price and Robbie Sihota are establishing themselves for the Dinos, and Duncan Milne, a 6'9" post player from Queen Elizabeth HS, is the starting big man for a strong Guelph Gryphons team. Mark Lynch, a 5th yr., 6'7" post for Saskatchewan, Churchill HS and MRC, is an important cog for the Huskies. Richard Steed, the point guard from Dr. E.P. Scarlett, is improving his numbers every season for the Pronghorns, and Ryan Anderson, his Lethbridge teammate, ex-Sir Winston Churchill HS, is a starter at forward. Brent Traxel, a 5th year at Thompson Rivers, Cochrane HS, has had some good scoring stats, while Sean Landry, 6'10", Bishop Grandin, is starting in the post for the Manitoba Bisons. Freshmen standout Tyler Fidler, Western Canada HS, 6'8" guard, is key for the Dinos future, along with Strathmore HS guard, Brennen Fule. The Dinos are also eager to sign Bert Church HS , Airdrie, senior post player, 6'6" Dominyc Coward, who was a Tournament All-Star this past summer as he led the Alberta U17 squad to a gold medal at Nationals. Two other outstanding Calgary area players were recruited by Calgary, but chose to go elsewhere ... Kyle Landry (Bishop Grandin), a 6'9" standout, 4th yr., for Northern Arizona University and Josh Whyte, Pearson HS, a 6'2" guard, who played one outstanding year at UVic, after starring at MRC. Here is a list of Calgary area (we will claim our 'satellite towns' as part of our area) players on CIS rosters for the 2007-08 season.
