Nova Scotia loses by two in men's basketball final at Canada Games

SUMMERSIDE — Kemy Osse of Montreal scored twice in the final five seconds Saturday and Quebec captured the gold medal in men's basketball at the Canada Summer Games with a thrilling 105-103 victory over Nova Scotia.

Osse finished with a game-high 30 points, sealing the victory with a long jump shot with 0.1 on the clock. Montreal's Kenny Chery and Kewyn Blain added 21 points apiece.

Deontay Smith of Halifax topped Nova Scotia with 27 points, while Mandrez Downey of Cole Harbour added 23.

Nova Scotia trailed by as much as 17 points in the first half but battled back with a 20-0 run early in the third quarter at Credit Union Place.

Quebec trailed by four points with 4.8 seconds left when Osse scored off a steal. Nova Scotia turned the ball over on their next possession, Osse took the inbounds pass and scored from near the top of the key.

Nova Scotia, gunning for its first gold medal since 1987, was undefeated heading into the final.

Ontario claimed the bronze medal with an 86-81 win over British Columbia.
