Bisons Recruit Pair from Red River College

Combining this announcement with the recruits listed on Barry Hayes Hoopstars Canada site brings the Bison's recruiting class to four including 6'7" Michael Page (transfer/Lakeland College/26.7 ppg in '05-'06) and 6'7" Sean Maxwell (transfer/UBC). We are still trying to get further updates from the Bisons staff on a more comprehensive update. Both the Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen play a charity event called "Hoops from the Heart" this coming Wednesday night at U of Manitoba gym.

August 10th, 2009 1:00pm

The Manitoba Bison men’s basketball team continues to prepare for the 2009-10 season with new head coach Kirby Schepp making another recruit announcements. Bisons head coach Kirby Schepp is pleased to announce the commitment of Jonar Huertas and Kurtis Sansregret to the Bison program for the upcoming season.

Huertas, 20, is a 6’0”, 185 lbs. guard who played high school basketball with the Sisler Spartans and his last team was the Red River College Rebels. With the Rebels, Huertas earned 2009 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) All-Conference award, as he played on the 2009 MCAC Championship squad. Prior to the Rebels, Huertas played high school basketball with the Sisler Spartans and was part of the 2006 provincial championship team. In addition, the Winnipeg native was recognized as Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Provincial All-Star in 2006 and MBCA Men’s ‘AAAA’ All-Manitoba Team in 2006 along with West Winnipeg Athletic Conference (WWAC) City Championship MVP in 2006.

Sansregret, 21, is a 6’0”, 180 lbs. guard who also played high school basketball with the Sisler Spartans and his last team was the Red River College Rebels. With the Rebels, Sansregret was named to 2009 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) All-Conference award, as he played on the 2009 MCACA Championship squad. Prior to the Rebels, the Winnipeg native was a teammate with Huertas as they played high school basketball with the Sisler Spartans and was part of the 2006 provincial championship team. The Spartans basketball victory was the first Sisler boys’ championship in 33 years.

Schepp said, “Jonar and Kurtis are both proven winners at every level. We are excited to see that experience and mentality come to our Bison program. Both players have had outstanding coaches in Scott Martin at Sisler and Suk Singh at Red River College. The addition of Jonar and Kurtis allow us the depth and talent to play the fast paced, up-tempo game we need to play to be successful.”

Bison Basketball notes: A reminder, first annual “Hoops From The Heart” will showcase the best of Manitoba basketball players with two exhibition games on Wednesday, August 12 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Investors Group Athletic Centre. All proceeds from the event will support heart research at St. Boniface General Hospital and Basketballs for Inner City Kids Project. The admission for “Hoops From the Heart” will be $3 for adults and $2 students at the door.
