It was nice to get a note from University of Windsor Associate Athletic Director Mike Havey reminding us that the 51st University of Windsor Invitational High School Basketball Tournament will take place next weekend (Friday / Saturday, December 21 / 22, 2007). As part of this year's tournament special recognition will be given to the 1957/58 Windsor Assumption Purple Raiders team. Assumption captured the first-ever Windsor High School tournament and then went on to win OFSAA (Ontario championship) later that season. This year's tournament features the consensus #1 team in Ontario and defending OFSAA "AAAA" champions Pickering Trojans featuring 6'2" Devoe Joseph, Canada's top player at last summer's FIBA World U-19 championships who recently committed to the University of Minnesota of the Big 10 conference. Also participating are perennial powers London Beal, Scarborough West Hill and Hamilton Cathedral plus the top local high school teams in Windsor.
