Gallimore & MacDonald Sign in Europe

Congratulations to both Garry Gallimore and Neil MacDonald , stalwards on the perennial national contenders St.FX X-Men for the past 4 and 5 years as both have officially signed professional contracts for this coming season with Liege of the Belgian First Division. Both Gallimore and MacDonald will be playing as imports for Head Coach Tom Johnson, a Canadian who played CIS basketball at UVic and also played on Canada's National team. "The entire X family is extremely happy and proud for both Garry and Neil", commented X Head Coach Steve Konchalski when contacted during a trip to B.C. where he will participate in a dinner honoring the 1976 Canadian National Olympic team. "They both worked very hard throughout their careers to get themselves in a position to continue their careers as pros. Starting out together under a Canadian coach is also an ideal situation." Konchalski also stated that as far as he knows, both Gallimore and MacDonald will be available to play for Canada at the FISU Games in early August. "Tom (Johnson) encouraged both of them to play for their country. He himself had the experience of playing for Canada on the National team and knows the value of competing internationally for your country. This allows Garry and Neil to play together at X, internationally for Canada and professionally together." Now that Gallimore's situation is clear, Konchalski is focusing on bringing in talent to replace both Garry and MacDonald but is holding his cards close to the vest on who he will bring in, only to say he's very close to getting 3 solid players. "We'll announce our class once we've dotted the i's and crossed the t's as they say." Konchalski also noted that he and coach Doc Ryan will have more players on campus through the summer than in many years which is needed given how young X will be next year. "T-Bear (Christian Upshaw) is already on campus as is Terrence Taylor while Alberto Rodriquez and Tyler Richards are due to arrive next week. Tyler is in a great frame of mind and we're expecting a bounce back year for him. It will be great to have all of our young talent every day in the summer as with 9 players who are freshman or sophomores next season, we need to accelerate their development. With the hands-on work in our summer programs, we should see our young kids develop quicker." Stay tuned for more on X's recruiting class as it becomes available and once again best wishes and congratulations to Garry and Neil.
