Ontario (3-1) used a 16 for 33 performance from three point land to pull away from Manitoba and claim a 102-62 victory to finish second in Group A and claim a spot in one of two championship semi-finals at the U17 Nationals in Lennoxville, Quebec. Ontario led by 4 at the half but used a 24-4 run in the fourth quarter for the win as Marvin Binney had 17, Murphy Burnatowski 14, Justin Tomas 13, Anthony Hinds 12 and Ashton Khan 10. In the other game that mattered on the final day of the preliminary round, B.C. (4-1) thrashed Saskatchewan 80-45, jumping out to a 46-25 halftime lead as Marc Trasolini finished with another double-double (21 points & 10 rebounds) while Sam Freeman added 17 for the winners.
Today's semi-finals are as follows:
6 PM Eastern Quebec vs. British Columbia
8:15 PM Eastern Alberta vs. Ontario
The winners meet in Tuesday's Gold Medal championship game while the losers of the two semi-finals meet for the Bronze medal. All games are at Bishop's University in Lennoxville.
Canada's Sr. Men's National team is preparing for their final set of tune-up games for the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifier in Las Vegas later this month by playing in the three-day "Tuto Marchand Cup" in Puerto Rico. Canada meets the host Puerto Rico side on Thursday followed by games against Argentina on Friday and Brazil on Saturday. Canada has yet to officially name their roster for the event. Argentina released their roster for the event recently, highlighted by a pair of NBAer's Carlos Delfino (new member of Toronto Raptors) and Luis Scola, one of the better power forwards in the world who has joined the NBA's Houston Rockets for this coming season after a stellar career in Europe.
