Canada announced their roster for the FIBA Americas Olympic qualification tournament that begins tomorrow in Las Vegas and the 12 man roster includes one player from the CIS. Likely addressing a requirement for depth at the point guard position, 6'4" Ryan Bell, who did not participate in the three games at recent Tuto Marchand Continental Cup in Puerto Rico, made the final roster. Canada has only one other true point guard on their roster 6'2" Jermaine Anderson with 6'5" Carl English and 6'5" Dave Thomas possibly able to play the point in a pinch. However, it appears the staff was comfortable going with Bell, who is not flashy but is a steady ball handler who is a deceptively strong defender. Unfortunately, the other CIS player who was in contention for one of the spots, 6'7" Aaron Doornekamp, was one of 3 players cut from the 15 players invited to the final training camp earlier in July. Others who were not added to the final roster were 6'6" Jermaine Bucknor and 6'8" Rans Brempong. Here is the final roster as officially announced by Canada Basketball earlier today:
