Canada Officially Finishes Third in Tuto Marchand Cup

6'10" Luis Scola dropped in a jumper with 14 seconds remaining, lifting Argentina to a 90-89 victory over Puerto Rico as the 1st annual Tuto Marchand Continental Cup wrapped up last night in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With the victory, Argentina (2-1, +3) claimed second place in the four-team, three-day tournament on point differential, relegating Canada (2-1, -5) to third place. Brazil (2-1, +17) captured the championship. Scola, who will suit up for the Houston Rockets this coming NBA season after a stellar career in Europe, finished with 24 points and 6 rebounds while 6'2" Paolo Quinteros also had 24 for the winners. Puerto Rico, which trailed 80-70 with just over 6 minutes to play before mounting a comeback to actually take the lead late got 19 points from 5'11" Jose Juan Barea, who just completed his rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks after a four-year career at Northeastern University where he left as probably the most decorated player in Huskies history. 7'3" Peter John Ramos, a former second round pick of the Washington Wizards who now plays in Spain, added 17 points and 6 rebounds for Puerto Rico. Both teams rested their top players as Puerto Rico's star guard 6'2" Carlos Arroyo (Orlando Magic) did not see any action nor did 6'6" Carlos Delfino (Toronto Raptors) for Argentina. These teams meet again on Friday, August 24th as part of Group A action at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifier preliminary round. NOTES: A note from Canada Basketball regarding the comment that the Bronze medal won by the FISU Games team was the first major medal by a Canadian team in 10 years: "(Canada) won a bronze at the 2003 FISU games and also a bronze at the 2005 U21 FIBA World Championship". Also, pictured, Canada's Aaron Doornekamp takes a charge on Brazil's Viera in last night's game in Puerto Rico.

So, with English not dressed, who played point for the 30 minutes that Anderson wasn't in? Did the coaching staff use the game to try out Brown and Famutimi (or even Doornekamp or Rautins) at point to see if any could serve as an emergency point for the real games?

Are you sure Doornekamp is taking a charge in the picture?

With all due respect, I had the opportunity to watch Aaron live at least 15 times this past season and rarely if ever could he have been accused of flopping; unfortunately he probably fell victim to his past reputation and actually did not get alot of calls he deserved that were legitimate charges.
