Despite shooting only 6-33 from beyond the arc late into the game and being down 1 at the half, the Bisons dominated the glass in the second half with 12 offensive rebounds in the third quarter alone and took advantage of 7 third quarter Wesmen turnovers to pull to a nine point lead entering the 4th and swept the season series against Winnipeg in the Duckworth Challenge at the Duckworth Center.
With score tied early in the third, the Bisons took control with a 13-4 run to end the quarter as 6'7" Richard Reimer scored his only 2 buckets of the game early and point guard Josh Ogden ignited a mini 8-2 run to close the quarter. Later, 6'4" freshman Keith Omoerah and 5'9" Jonar Huertas allowed Manitoba to build leads as large as 15 as Huertas had 11 fourth quarter points while Omoerah, the freshman from Winnipeg, had 13 of his 15 points in the second half.
Winnipeg stayed in the game in the third quarter on the heels of three 3's by 6'4" Lyndon Drayton-Barrow, who finished with 12 points after cooling off over the final 15 minutes of play. The closest the Wesmen got was to within 8 at 63-55 early in the fourth as the Bisons finished the game on a 13-6 run to further solidify their hopes for a Canada West playoff spot.
Reimer led the way for Manitoba on the glass with at least 8 offensive rebounds and about 15 overall while Odgen was again solid at the point with few if any turnovers. Eric Garcia added 15 for Manitoba which had a very balanced attack despite such a poor performance from beyond the arc.
In the only OUA game played tonight, Queen's defeated RMC 83-38 in Kingston at the home of the Paladins.
