The Gee-Gees stayed in the game the entire way and even fought back from being down 7 with 5 minutes remaining to get it back to down 3 on the final possession. Hope to have more stats and commentary however 6'5" Warren Ward had a big game for Ottawa and appears much more confident offensively. 6'0" Max Clarkson also played major minutes for Ottawa and was steady, even taking some turns bringing up the ball and going past people. Ottawa went at least 10 deep, giving everyone a chance to play. St. John's was playing their fourth game in 28 hours and were without at least 3 regulars due to various injuries.
Ward led all scorers with 22 points including 3 3's while 6'4" Josh Gibson-Bascombe had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists while 6'3" Donnie Gibson added 10. Clarkson added 8 points in 26 minutes including back-to-back 3's in the first half running the point a little bit as well. Ottawa shot 7-15 from downtown for the game but was hurt by 21 turnovers including five apiece by freshmen Ryan Malcolm-Campbell and Akeem Gardner.

I saw both games in Ottawa Sunday.
Carleton was playing well until a couple minutes into the second half. Then an avalanche of turnovers, poor shots and fast breaks buried Carleton's chances of winning the game. The Ravens recovered somewhat over the last ten minutes of the game, but that run sealed their fate.
Ottawa U also played well in the first half, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, anticipating St John's would suddenly turn on the after burners and pull away.
Turns out, the Red Storm never did pull away from Ottawa.
Taking nothing away from the Gee-Gees commendable performance but it appeared that the four game in two day grind was taking its toll on St John's.
From the start of the game, the Red Storm seemed tired, and had trouble dealing with Ottawa's smaller but athletic team.
Unlike the Carleton game, when the visitors went into overdrive to vanquish the Ravens, St John's never really got their mojo working and struggled to put away the Gee-Gees right till the end.
In fact, the game may well have gone into OT but Ottawa inexplicably drove the ball to the hoop for a deuce which St John's gladly conceded instead of going for the trey.
Still, a great game for Ottawa and maybe life without Dax won't be so bleak after all.
