Barrie represents the new breed of coach that has been coming into the CIS in recent years: young, dynamic, technically excellent but above all else, ambitious with an intense desire to succeed. A coach with lofty goals and the capability to fulfill them. At long last an inspired hire for Queen's. I have a suspicion Duncan Cowan will garner that full time assistant's job. Duncan stepped into a thankless situation last fall when the incumbent coach up and quit, leaving the team in the lurch. Obviously, the going was extremely tough for the Gaels last season having lost Mitch Leger and a couple of other veterans to graduation but the team rallied late and almost made the playoffs.
An interesting point will be where this leaves Queen's and their recruiting for this upcoming year. Duncan Cowan had a great relationship with many of the players returning and recruits and it will be interesting to see if those recruits decide to go elsewhere?
