Valley City captures 45th Wesmen Classic

The Vikings took charge in the third quarter amid a flurry of Brandon turnovers to win the 45th Wesmen Classic title, capturing the championship game going away over the Bobcats.

The Valley City State University Vikings defeated the Brandon University Bobcats 90-58 in the Championship Final of the 2011 Coca Cola Wesmen Classic. The victory by the Vikings is the second university title by an American school in the 45 year history of the Classic. Bismarck Jr.College was the last American school to win back in 1968. Tournament MVP Sekani Milligen led the Vikings with a gamehigh 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists. All Star Aaron Duske added 18 points and Aj McDonald finished with 12 points, including three-three pointers. All-Star Emerick Ravier led the Bobcats with 14 points. Jordan Reaves and Ilarion Bonhomme each scored 8. Valley City State went into the halftime break leading 37-26 and turned up the heat in the second half connecting on 59% shooting from the field and outscoring Brandon 53-32 in the final twenty minutes. The Vikings finish the three day tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, Brandon finishes at 2-1.
