The Citadins completely took over the game late in the third quarter, starting a game-deciding 21-2 run with about 2 minutes remaining in the quarter to later build leads as large as 24 points in what turned out to be a run-away win over the reeling Stingers. After Concordia's 5'10" fifth-year guard Pierre Thompson converted a pair of free throws to bring the Stingers to within 2 at 55-53, UQAM forced a series of Stinger turnovers and held Concordia, which had opened the game going 7 for 15 from downtown, to just 1-8 3's the rest of the way including 0-5 during the big run which happened over a six minute span bridging the 3rd and 4th quarters.
As is usually the case, the athletic Citadins spread their scoring around well as Arthaud Plesius had 6 of his team-high 19 points during the critical surge while Eric Cote added 18 points/8 rebounds and Jules Diagne added 11. Reserve forward Kevin Bitondo was also instrumental in the win with a key putback just beating the third quarter buzzer, part of his 11 point, 5 rebound performance. 6'1" Decee Krah had 21 points to lead all scorers, going 5 for 9 from beyond the arc for the Stingers who were outrebounded 40-26 and allowed 18 offensive rebounds. Concordia, which played without third leading scorer Vali Lazarescu and received only 8 minutes of playing time from Hamza Ruhezamihigo, shot only 30% as a team in the second half.
With the victory, UQAM keeps pace with Laval for first place in the QSSF, while the defending Quebec league champions Stingers fall to 2-4 on the season. BOX SCORE
