We're Not the only ones perplexed

Our good friend Wayne Thomas who has kept us so well informed about Calgary Dinos and Canada West in general this season chimes in with his Selection Sunday edition of Dino Hoop News and he echos many of our sentiments...

Dino Hoop News by Wayne Thomas March 8

Dinos Earn # 2 Seed at Nationals - Robbie Sihota and his Dinos teammates go to Ottawa as #2 seed.

The Calgary Dinos were awarded the # 2 seed in the 8 team draw for the CIS Nationals, March 13-15, Scotiaplace Arena, Ottawa. Calgary will meet Concordia, the Quebec League Champions at XXXX pm in the 1st round game.

What Were They Thinking ?!

The CIS has to be kidding ! This draw is a travesty, which diminishes the event before it gets underway. Given an opportunity to test Champions from across the country, to create cross-over match-ups from coast to coast, and to provide intriguing pairings of teams from different regions, what does this committee come up with ?

3 Ontario teams in the same side of the draw ... 2 face each other in the quarter-final. 3 League Champions in on side of the draw, and one on the other. 2 Canada West teams on the same side Quebec and the Atlantic relegated to the 6-7-8 spots

Why in the name of Dave Smart wouldn't we want to see UBC in the 4/5 game against either Concordia or Dal, with a shot at playing Carleton, who must be a little weary of the Gee-Gees by now ... Why not have Calgary take on Western or Ottawa, and see how the Canada West Champs fare against the OUA powers. Spread your 3 OUA teams through the draw ... provide some inter-league interest.

Sham of an effort, really. We doubt seriously whether there are many, if any, of the coaches on the 8 teams who would support this feeble attempt at a draw.

...Here, here....

Notes: Great idea for the U of C to host a couple of social events for alumni, parents, fans at the Nationals ... Friday - A.D. Kevin Boyles will be at Marshy's BBQ and Grill at Scotiabank Place hosting a pre-game get together. Saturday morning UC 's Ann Tierney, Vice Provost, Students, and David Johnston, Director of Admissions, will host a brunch at the Marriot Hotel, downtown Ottawa, 9:30 am.
The Dinos leave Wednesday morning and have a light practice at Carleton U. that evening. On Thursday, they will get a shoot on the Scotiaplace court in Kanata. The 8 teams and other CIS coaches and VIPs will attend the CN All-Canadian Awards evening on Thursday night at The Marriot, which is the host hotel for the Championship. Player of the Year Award and 1st team all-stars will come from the Conference Player of the Year winners ... Jacob Doerksen, trinity will be in that group. Dinos may get a 2nd team nomination. Once again, Championships take precedence over individual awards, we think the Dinos players and staff would agree.
