Thanks to UQAM coach Olga Hrycak for updating us on her team's game against Campbell Fighting Camels this past weekend at home in Montreal. While the Citadins were defeated 82-68, the game gave Hrycak an excellent opportunity to evaluate their recruiting class, according to Hrycak, "My rookies did not let me down." UQAM's pair of freshmen from College Brebeuf ("AA" CEGEP) Olivier Boyard and Thierry Justin demonstrated that they will contribute alot to the Citadins this year. As well, Igor Rigwewa, a point guard that played for the Rawandan National Team this summer, should contribute. UQAM also uncovered a potential diamond-in-the-rough in 6'6" walk-on Karim Gueye from Senegal, who showed that he can step in right away and give the Citadins much needed size and presence inside. Hrycak claims she is very excited about the upcoming season as "Mario Joseph, Kevin Boucher and Renaldo Maignan are in better shape and are ready to step in as the veterans of this team." If Samuel Johnston can come back strong from a back injury (Citadins are hoping Johnston can be ready for their Sunday, October 7th game when they host American International, NCAA Division 1), UQAM could have even more depth and talent as Johnston is a proven guard in the "Q" who fits in to Hrycak's pressing, up tempo style.
