The CIS regular season restarts this evening in Winnipeg as the Wesmen, newly-crowned champions of their 40th Annual Wesmen Classic last weekend, go across town to face the Manitoba Bisons for a 9 PM eastern time start tonight. These two clubs met in an exciting game last weekend in the semi-finals of the Wesmen Classic with Winnipeg edging the Bisons 73-70 in front of a sell-out crowd, as freshman James Horaska had a steal and lay-in with only 28 seconds remaining to break a 70-70 tie while tournament MVP Efran Nasajpour fired in 30 points. Tonight's game, the first in a weekend home-and-home series (the teams meet again on Saturday at U of Winnipeg) is part of the "Duckworth Challenge" between the cross-town rivals and promises to be another great one in this rivalry. 16th Annual Duckworth Challenge
The subject of CIS/NCAA recruiting is well covered by folks like Jim Thomas (All-Ontario Scouting Service) and Barry Hayes (hooplife.ca) so this site likely won't be a source of recruiting information until a player publicly commits, which, in the case of 6'10" center Colin Laforme from Hamilton, who has transfered back from Youngstown State, an NCAA Division 1 program, has happened. The Western Mustangs have added a nice piece to their re-emerging program. Colin Laforme transfers to Western from NCAA Division 1 Youngstown State
Our thanks to blogger friend Blake Oliver, who seems to know the NJCAA and/or associated other web sites quite well, for helping us complete the CIS holiday game results with the following:
A few scores against USA Junior Colleges were missed:
Dec. 29 Regina 72 vs Williston State 66
Dec. 30 Regina 83 vs Miles Comm College 82
Dec. 31 Carleton 79 vs Ancilla College (tier II) 61
Thanks again Blake.
Another edition of Canadians in the NCAA has been published on the hoopla.com web site out of Hamilton here
