UBC to remain in CIS
Very good news that UBC will remain in the CIS and the T-Birds leadership appears to want to be at the forefront of growth and evolution of inter-university sport in Canada.
UBC's announcement is a very positive thing for CIS and Canada West. The other news about Canada West re-structuring, and changes to CIS scholarship rules will have to be ongoing work.
These changes will not be universally popular, and may be a tough sell. The Canada West League re-structure is a difficult nut to crack. The League governors are getting into 'tiering', and this is without precedent in the CIS. Schools like UBC, U of A, Calgary, Manitoba, Regina are very different operations to smaller programs and schools like Trinity Western, Brandon, Winnipeg, and certainly, UBC-O, Thompson Rivers, and Fraser Valley.
This is a problem created by the League, and they are going to have a tough time creating a 2 Division structure, I would think.

I would suggest to the UBC leaders they should start with their men's basketball programme - 3 incidents in 4 years of UBC players/coaches verbally abusing referees (+++) at post-CIS Tournament encounters (2 in Ottawa and this year in Halifax) - all of which are currently under investigation by the CIS) leads one to believe maybe they'd fit in better in the NCAA - ...

Canada West has announced Mount Royal is coming on board with m and w basketball for the year following....oh, goody.
